Stand with Courage is a documentary-driven event designed to inspire reflection on the values we hold dear, drawing from personal and generational legacies.

The 90-minute session begins with a film screening, followed by a panel discussion and small-group workshops that invites you to rediscover values worth standing for by exploring the life stories of your grandparents.

This format is part of a broader European Democracy & Digital Future Tour, where conversations may continue online via the newly launched European social media platform W Social for a movement across cities and generations (www.wsocial.eu).

What does it mean to resist—not just in the past, but now? The Courage to Listen is the first part of four of the documentary Stand with Courage filmed in Brussels, Bruges and Paris. It opens with a myth: a triumphant German propaganda reel hailing the 1,000-year Reich. But beneath its spectacle lies the machine of dehumanization that millions, like Belgian resistance fighter Bernard Declève, stood up against. In 1942, Bernard voluntarily walked into Gestapo headquarters in Brussels to protect his family, beginning a three-year descent into torture, Nazi prisons, and concentration camps.

In 2025, his granddaughter Sandrine Dixson-Declève retraces his path, inviting us into a reckoning with the tools of tyranny – division, dehumanization, distraction – that are creeping back today. Through testimony, archival material, and lived emotion, the film becomes a deeply European meditation on courage, memory, and the moral choice to act.

The Courage to Listen is not about glorifying the past; it’s about hearing what the past still has to say. What begins as a personal journey becomes a mirror held up to our time.

Stand with Courage is a documentary by Sandrine Dixson-Declève and Carl Eneroth that invites viewers to reflect on the courage Europe needs today. Through stories of history, memory, and collective action, the film explores how we can shape a shared future across generations and borders, inspiring dialogue about the values that unite us.
